I’m currently working in Dubai and have a residence visa sponsored by my current employer. I’ve received a new job offer and want to transfer my visa to the new company.
My question is: What is the correct process to transfer my UAE residence visa to a new employer without facing fines or bans?
I’d also like to know how long the process usually takes and whether I need to cancel my current visa first or if it can be directly transferred.
I am Mr Sami Hassan, legal advisor staying in Dubai.
Dr Mohammed, the correct process is that your current employer must cancel your existing residence visa before the new company can apply for and issue a fresh visa under their sponsorship. You should serve the contractual notice period and ensure all dues are cleared to avoid fines or bans. Once cancelled, the new employer can immediately start the transfer procedure.
The process usually takes 1–3 weeks, depending on approvals and documentation.
